Gear Review: Hylete Training Apparel

In a previous post, we discussed the importance of gear and defined gear as anything that aids you in accomplishing your goal; stuff fills a role, but gear helps you succeed. As hunters, we need gear, not stuff. That’s where Hylete training apparel comes in. Hylete apparel functions well beyond your typical fitness apparel and fits the bill for what the fit hunter needs to reach his or her goals when training for any hunt.

Apparel Performance Necessities

When you are training, you need your apparel to perform well in a few specific areas. These areas are:

1. Regulating temperature and moisture

Your apparel needs to be able to breathe well so that your body temperature is regulated. A cotton shirt holds heat in and soaks up your sweat, becoming very uncomfortable after a short period of time when training. You need a shirt that is breathable and moves moisture away from your body.

2. Lightweight

I don’t know about you, but a heavy shirt becomes more and more noticeable to me the longer I train. Also, heavy shorts are annoying when doing cardio of any kind. Lightweight apparel is key to maximizing exercise efficiency.

3. Range of Motion

Depending on the material, cut, length, and a myriad of other factors, a shirt or pair of shorts can either be flexible and provide full range of motion or bind up and be a distraction. Whatever apparel you wear, it needs to allow you to move freely without binding so that you can get the most out of every exercise and every rep.

Hylete Products

Hylete offers quite a few products for men and women ranging from: shirts, tanks, shorts, hoodies, compression shorts and socks, bags, headwear, and more. In this article, we will be featuring products from the men’s line, but we will be featuring some of their women’s products as well in the near future. I had the opportunity to use the men’s crew shirt, men’s cross-training 2.0 shorts, men’s 1.0 hoodie, and compression socks (They also have a pretty sweet camo collection as well). Here are the details of my findings with these products:

Men’s Crew Shirt

The first thing I noticed about this shirt is how light it is. It is incredibly light and flexible. It is a tri-blend shirt that handles any form of training very well. The shirt fit true to size and did shrink slightly, but not too much. I have a 42″ chest and a large was perfect. It breathed very well and I was cool for the duration of my workout. Even when I was sweating heavily, the shirt performed flawlessly. It is now my go-to shirt for training. I will be getting a few more of these for sure.

Men’s Cross-Training 2.0 Shorts

Best… Shorts… Ever. Period. I don’t even know where to start with these. They fit is great, they are very flexible and allow a full range of motion, and they are very comfortable. They breathe very well and I was consistently shocked by how well they regulated temperature. There are zippered pockets on each side and my iPhone 6 fit perfectly inside of it (no more phone falling out of my pocket while jumping rope). I have a 31″ waist and the shorts fit well, especially with the exterior drawstring. These are the best shorts I have ever tried and I would confidently say they are the best pair of shorts you can get your hands on today.

Men’s 1.0 Hoodie

This hoodie is very comfortable and stylish. It is a good piece for training in the cold, but it is also very comfortable and fits well if you choose to wear it any other time. If you like a tight fit, be sure to select a side that is on the lower end of you body size. For example, the t-shirt fit perfect in a large, but a large in the hoodie fits loose (which is how I like it). If I wanted a snug fit, a medium would be the way to go. The fleece lining is very soft and retains warmth very well.

Compression Socks

The compression socks are well-made and fit well. Compression socks are a good piece of gear to have to help with blood circulation, prevent injury, and limit swelling. They are stitched to contour to each leg and are made to go on a specific side so that the fit is perfect. These definitely do the trick and are a great addition to your gear bag.

The “It” Factor

Where Hylete really impressed me was in their customer service. Every experience I have had with them has been absolutely positive. When I originally ordered my 1.0 hoodie, it didn’t fit the way I wanted. They accepted the return, no questions asked, processed it, and shipped me a new size the same day. I received it in the mail two days after it shipped. They certainly put the customer first and I plan on working with them in the future due to their excellent level of service.

The Verdict

I could not be more impressed with the Hylete line of apparel and their level of service. You should be training with apparel that functions as gear, helping you achieve your goals. Hylete apparel will do exactly that and it will do it very well.
