There were some phenomenal products at the 2016 SHOT Show and I had the privilege of seeing far more than I could ever document in one place. Over the course of two days I walked over 15 total miles between booths to check out everything that was coming out from the great companies that were represented. There were a few products and brands that really stood out to me as game changers and serious innovations. Here is a list of some of the most exciting new products for 2016:
Garmin fēnix 3
This is not a smartwatch; this is a powerhouse of data for your wrist. The fēnix 3 is a rugged, capable and smart multisport training GPS watch. With feature sets for fitness training plus feature sets for outdoor navigation, fēnix 3 is ready for any training activity and competition. Access to the Connect IQ platform allows customization of watch faces, data fields, widgets and activities. You can also use fēnix 3 as a remote for up to 9 VIRB action cameras.
I spent some time at the Garmin booth checking out all of the features of the fēnix 3 and I was absolutely blown away. It makes the Apple Watch look like something that came out of a cereal box.

Wolverine/Vibram Arctic Grip Technology
Wolverine and Vibram have teamed up to bring a phenomenal new product to the market. Vibrate leads the industry in development of rubber products and performance soles. This year, Wolverine has teamed up with them to bring the Arctic Grip technology to outdoorsman.
Arctic Grip is a new technology that allows for unparalleled traction on slippery ice. I spent some time at their booth this week and tried them out on a giant ice slab that they had for demonstrations. It was incredible! On a slick slab of ice, I had to really try to get my foot to slip. The unique material on the sole promotes incredible grip and stability on slippery surfaces. If you spend any amount of time in icy conditions, you need to look into this new technology and the offerings from Wolverine.

First Lite Aero Wool
First Lite has been known as the leader in merino wool technologies for years now. Their ultra-fine merino wool is the best that money can buy… period.
For 2016, First Lite has developed a new blend of merino wool that incorporates synthetic fiber to promote increased breathability for warmer hunts. Aero Wool is essential two-thirds merino wool and one-third 37.5 Cocona activated synthetic, offering the benefits of wool and the breathability and carbon activated odor control of Cocona synthetic.
In person, Aero Wool is very soft and light. It will be comfortable to wear next to skin and will also be easy to layer over in the event the temps drop. This should be a great alternative for those warm August and September afternoons.
First Lite has not released info about Aero Wool on their website yet. When it is released, this will be updated with a link

Havalon Knives Titan and Evolve
Okay, so the Titan is not new, but it is such a phenomenal product that I had to include it here. It features a full-size Cryo hardened AUS8 knife blade on one end and the Havalon quick-change blade system on the other. The Titan can fill the role of two knives and can be the only compact knife you ever need to carry. In hand, the Titan is solid and functions well. Havalon has always impressed me with the rugged construction of their knives. The Titan does not disappoint.
The Evolve is new for 2016 and is sure to be a great product. It was developed in collaboration with Jim Shockey and is the first multi-tool to feature the quick-change blade system. It also features an interchangeable bit holder with storage for two additional bits so that you can make adjustments to your bow, rifle, or other gear while in the field without the need of carrying additional tools. I am looking forward to getting one of these and taking it everywhere I go this fall.

Vortex Razor LH
The Razor LH fills a necessary gap in the riflescope industry. A recent trend has shown that if you want a no frills, straight forward riflescope, you had to get lower-grade glass. If you want the highest grade glass, your riflescope would come with tons of features that could be over-whelming. What if you want the best glass possible while also having straight-forward features? Enter the Razor LH.
Available in 1.5-8×32, 2-10×40, 3-15×42 options with two available reticles, the Razor LH combines quality with clarity. Weighing only 13.4-16.5 oz (depending on model), the Razor LH is very light and will match up nicely to your light-weight mountain rifle. Vortex continues to push the limits in their quest to bring quality optics at an unbeatable price.

Kestrel Drop and Sportsman Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics
Kestrel has been well-established as the go-to brand for weather meters and ballistic technologies. I stopped by their booth this week and checked out some of their products and was impressed with all of their offerings. The Kestrel Drop stood out though because of the incredible things it can do for being so small. The Drop is an environmental data logger that weighs a mere 1.2 oz. Just hang it on your pack or in your tent and it constantly scans data such as temperature, pressure, humidity, heat index, and more. It also wirelessly transmits data to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth.
The Sportsman Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics is a must for any hunter who wants to tap into the world of long-range shooting. It combines accurate measurement of air density and wind with a powerful ballistics calculator to deliver precise elevation and windage solutions for any gun, any round, any shot. The built-in enhanced Applied Ballistics G1/G7 ballistics solver is tested and trusted by long-range hunters and shooters. The Sportsman is enabled with Bluetooth LINK connectivity to display readings on your smartphone or tablet. Also available is a portable weather vane that ensures the most accurate readings possible.
