Protein and Superfood Snack

I don’t think anyone will argue with me that for those of us who wish to eat healthy and create lean muscle we need to eat protein and vegetables.  Of course we do our best to get these during our normal meals and through supplements but sometimes it’s nice to have a tasty snack to go to that is pure and simple.  I have found one that is easy to make, tastes good, and gives you protein and nutrients that your body needs.  Here’s a hint, it has eggs and avocados!

Avocados contain vitamins K, C, B5, B6, E, folate, potassium, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorous, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, protein (not a ton but I’ll take all I can get), fiber, and some of those healthy fats that we have been given the go ahead to eat!  Tell me that doesn’t sound that something you need to be eating.

Eggs as we all know are an awesome source of protein.  As a matter of fact a large egg has 6 grams of that ever precious protein if the label on the carton in my fridge is telling me the truth.  Believe it or not they also contain several other vitamins and minerals that are just plain good for us hunter athletes.

Based on all the nutrients packed into those relatively small packages, throw in a few other minor ingredients and you have one heck of a healthy snack.  Actually, I wouldn’t feel bad about eating the whole batch myself in one sitting!


6 large hard boiled eggs (direct from the farm if you’re as lucky as I am)

1 or so large avocados (hey, their good for you so the more you can pile on the better)

2 tsp of lime juice (don’t use lemon juice…been there done that)

1 tsp chopped fresh cilantro (you can certainly use dried cilantro in a pinch)

Have some garlic powder and pepper on hand

Paprika (if you’re worried about presentation or impressing someone)


Hard boil the eggs and cut in half long ways

Remove the yolks and put at least 3 of the yolks in a bowl (this depends whether you’re looking to cut a little good fat or good cholesterol out of your diet, you could use all 6)

Throw the avocado in with the yolks

Add the cilantro, a pinch of garlic powder, and a dash of pepper (if you like it spicy just splash on some of your favorite hot sauce) and mash

Spread the mixture onto the egg halves you hopefully saved from earlier

If you’ve got a hot date with you sprinkle some paprika on and dig in!!!!!
