The Ascent Series in Subalpine Works Great for a Variety of Destinations and Game.  Photo Taken in Michigan.

It’s hot in Texas…but I didn’t let that stop me from hunting this summer.  Being blessed to have year round opportunities to chase game I didn’t want to miss any chances I might get.  With that, I needed something that I could wear to keep me concealed but also not cause me to melt into a puddle of sweaty mess.  Talking with a Sitka representative he recommended giving the Ascent Series a shot.   Continue Reading…

One of the Latest Offerings From Danner,  Gila, Caters to the Mobile Hunter.

At the 2017 ATA show I stopped by the Danner Boots display to see what they had in the works.  One of the boots I was drawn to was the Gila.  I don’t know if it was because the boot simply looked solid, appeared as a lightweight hiking boot allowing for excellent mobility, or the recent addition of the Sitka Subalpine camo pattern.  Either way, I wanted a pair.  Unfortunately they weren’t available at the time but finally this past fall I was able to get my hands on a pair and boy was I glad I did! The Subalpine Pattern is the Latest from the Team at Sitka.

In the world of technical hunting clothing Sitka has clearly made a name for themselves as arguably the premier manufacturer.  They have a wide range of offerings for all types of sportsmen AND women ranging from whitetail hunters, waterfowl hunters, to mountain hunters and anything in between.  With such an extensive offering and the fact that they strive for continuous improvement it’s easy to see why I’m a fan.  This past year at the ATA show when I met the team from Sitka it was truly fascinating to see and understand the thought and efforts that go into their work.  With all this being said, when I got the chance to try out several pieces from their Subalpine collection I was ecstatic! 2832-0100-CONDOR LCX MARRON

When it comes to footwear I’m not one to cut any corners.  Even as a child my dad would always tell me you’ve got to take care of your feet.  That advise has proven accurate and something I have not taken lightly.  Think about it this way, every single step you take while in the field your feet have to balance on whatever terrain you’re on and transmit the force from your body to the ground and back up again.  If you’re not on your feet then you’re not going to get much hunting done.  With all that being said, I had the pleasure of being introduced to a company I had never heard of before, Le Chameau.  While I believe their bread and butter for years has been their outstanding rubber boots they also offer a leather hunting boot.  I had the opportunity to try out the Condor LCX this year leading up to and during the hunting season. The Sitka Fanatic Series Finally Meets the Needs Required by Serious Whitetail Hunters

When you think high performance hunting clothing there is a short list of companies that come to mind, Sitka being one of them.  I have experimented with several brands and was presented with the opportunity to give the Fanatic Series a test this fall hunting whitetails here in Illinois.  I have had my eye on their gear for a while and once I found out they had a series targeting stand hunting for deer I couldn’t resist.  I’ve tried it all and can say that up to this point I’ve managed, but haven’t come across an article or set of clothing that really impressed me.  That is until now.  Continue Reading…

Smartwool Socks Have been in My Drawer for Years…and for Good Reason.  They Work.

My dad used to tell me all the time that your feet are the most important part of your body (short of your brain of course) and you’ve got to take care of them.  As my experiences have grown I realize just what he is talking about.  Aside from wearing quality boots your socks are something you should take into consideration as well.  Something else I have really began to get an appreciation for is wool.  With all the “advancements” in wool, coupled with it’s tried and true qualities, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be utilized in your socks.  With all that said I’d like to recommend Smartwool socks to be added to your hunting gear.  They have some fantastic products that I have been using for years and they were recently kind enough to send me a couple of pairs to highlight for you guys.  Let me say this, I have been wearing them for years on my own accord, so just because I am going to write about the new ones I just received, my comments are based on years of experience and satisfaction in Smartwool socks.   Continue Reading…

Believe it or not your belt is an extremely important piece of your hunting wardrobe you don’t want to overlook.  As a matter of fact several belts from Croakies saved me and my partners backpack elk hunt last year.  We had been training religiously leading up to the hunt.  One guy lost 30 lbs to give you an idea of the effort that had been put into preparing for this.  Continue Reading…

The weather is finally halfway decent out and Dad loves to mix his workouts up with some trail taming. Why not get him outfitted to hit those hiking (or running if he’s ambitious) trails with style and energy?  It could also be a great opportunity for Dad to spend some quality time with you while exposing yourselves to some of nature’s greatest views.  Below are some suggestions for an active outdoors dad geared towards a day of pounding the trails.
