The new year is upon us and we should all be retooling (our bodies and gear) for the upcoming fall.   While I plan to bring you  updates on the latest and greatest gear, my focus today is more on your body.  If you’re like me then you busted your butt all Winter, Spring, and Summer hitting the fall seasons firing on all cylinders.  If you were hunting out West then you were likely done in Oct, maybe early November.  If you are more in the Midwest or East perhaps your season got extended through December.  Either way, season is over, now what? Strength Training For Hunting Fitness is Year Round (Photo courtesy of fitnesspainfree.com).

Hopefully you all have had a successful hunting season this fall.  I have been blessed and if you follow me on social media then you know I was lucky enough to have to purchase a new freezer to support my wild game habit.  Perhaps you’re even still at it hoping to capitalize on some late season tendencies.  I have a few tags left in my pocket and a few friends who have stated they would be interested in a deer if I had another opportunity so we’ll see what happens.  However, this is not necessarily why I’m writing.  I am writing to let you know that next season begins now for those of you who have already filled your tags or gave it your best attempting to do so. So we all know the importance of getting enough protein in our diets to adequately repair our muscles after hard workouts, right? That means that many of you utilize a protein powder to get a few more grams into your daily diet.  And if you’re like me it’s nice to add some fresh (or frozen) fruit and throw it in a blender for some natural sweetness and those every important nutrients that fruit holds for us.  If you’re really looking for a treat you might even use some milk and turn it into more of a shake.  I’m guessing it would look something like the picture below before you hit the blend button. Protein is essential to muscle recovery and growth. Regardless of your fitness goals, protein plays a crucial role in your reaching those goals. Even if you don’t want to build muscle mass upon muscle mass, protein plays a major role in even the most basic rebuilding of muscle fibers after physical exercise.

However, there are quite a few options when it comes to protein (egg, whey, casein, soy, etc.). What type of protein is best and when should you be consuming protein? How much protein should you be consuming on average each day? These are important questions to which you need to know the answer in order to make the most of your training. Continue Reading…

Rest is one of the absolute most important parts off any training program. Without rest, your body cannot recover; without sleep, your body cannot truly rest. You need 8-9 hours of sleep per night to maintain proper recovery and hormone balance. However, if it were possible to make the most of your body’s natural recovery processes while you sleep, there would be no reason to not take full advantage of it. Wilderness Athlete’s Nighttime optimizer is intended to do exactly that.
