I Finally Stepped Up My Game to a Pro Level Vacuum Packer and It’s Fantastic.

If I’ve said I hunt for the meat once I’ve said it 100 times.  With that I often go ahead and do the butchering and packaging myself.  With the advent of the home vacuum packer years ago preserving your kill has gotten much easier and better.  For years I’ve used a fairly cheap sealer that could be picked up at your local Walmart.  For years I also struggled with poor sealing, multiple attempts, and if you ask my wife a vacuum sealer that sounded like a chainsaw in our kitchen.  No more.  I went big time and finally picked up a Weston Pro-2300 vacuum sealer and won’t be looking back anytime soon.   Continue Reading…

Midlands MicroMobile Series of Two Way Radios are Perfect for Mobile Hunting Situations.

Other than for sustenance, what is likely one of the biggest reasons people hunt?  I’m sure the list is arguable but I’m willing to bet that camaraderie will be pretty high on the list.   Hunting brings people and families together all throughout the year to spend quality time together in the outdoors.  With that, communication among party members is critical for success and often times safety or avoidance of spoiled meat.    The Midland MXT115 MicroMobile Two-Way Radio is perfect for those types of situations.   Continue Reading…

YETI Has a Perfect 1-2-3 Combo for Your Outdoor Adventures.

YETI created the high performance cooler market years ago and hasn’t settled for anything but the best ever since.  You have all heard of them and can’t question their ability to keep things cold.  I’ve trialed many YETI products and keep close tabs on other reviews and social media comments and have yet to see where they didn’t perform in the upper echelon of cooler performance.  With that being said, I had the opportunity to test YETI’s latest offerings;  Hopper Backflip 24, Camino Carryall 35, and Sidekick Dry. One of the Latest Offerings From Danner,  Gila, Caters to the Mobile Hunter.

At the 2017 ATA show I stopped by the Danner Boots display to see what they had in the works.  One of the boots I was drawn to was the Gila.  I don’t know if it was because the boot simply looked solid, appeared as a lightweight hiking boot allowing for excellent mobility, or the recent addition of the Sitka Subalpine camo pattern.  Either way, I wanted a pair.  Unfortunately they weren’t available at the time but finally this past fall I was able to get my hands on a pair and boy was I glad I did! The most quintessential reason we hunt is for sustenance.  There are many other reasons and benefits but really the only reason you’re able to sit there and read this article is someone years and years and even a few more years ago killed something and ate it.  The good news is whether we kill something or not, we’re likely not to starve to death.  However inside many of us there is an urge to provide protein for ourselves, families, and friends.  In the spirit of just that you probably want it to taste good.  I actually do a ton of cooking around my house and most of it consists of wild game and veggies so I’m always on the lookout for something to give my culinary skills a boost.  Through my research along with some trial and error I found Miley Brands Grill Rubs and Spices. Now may seem like an odd time for a gear review review on a bug repellent as I just finished up a trail run in 6 inches of snow and subzero windchill, but really now is a great time to be thinking about your Spring adventures.   Look at it this way, you likely just received some gift cards or had to take back the pink bunny suit so you’ve got a little expendable income right now.  Think forward a few months to when you’re turkey hunting, camping, or doing a little Spring fishing and how awful the mosquitoes will be.  At that point it will be too late and you’ll have to just grin and bear it. Take advantage of some great technology and make your upcoming outdoors activities just a little more enjoyable.  Thermacell has been expanding their lineup of mosquito repellers continuously since hitting the market several years ago.  One of their most recent offerings is the MR450 which I had the pleasure of testing out this past summer.   Continue Reading…

The Subalpine Pattern is the Latest from the Team at Sitka.

In the world of technical hunting clothing Sitka has clearly made a name for themselves as arguably the premier manufacturer.  They have a wide range of offerings for all types of sportsmen AND women ranging from whitetail hunters, waterfowl hunters, to mountain hunters and anything in between.  With such an extensive offering and the fact that they strive for continuous improvement it’s easy to see why I’m a fan.  This past year at the ATA show when I met the team from Sitka it was truly fascinating to see and understand the thought and efforts that go into their work.  With all this being said, when I got the chance to try out several pieces from their Subalpine collection I was ecstatic! When it comes to footwear I’m not one to cut any corners.  Even as a child my dad would always tell me you’ve got to take care of your feet.  That advise has proven accurate and something I have not taken lightly.  Think about it this way, every single step you take while in the field your feet have to balance on whatever terrain you’re on and transmit the force from your body to the ground and back up again.  If you’re not on your feet then you’re not going to get much hunting done.  With all that being said, I had the pleasure of being introduced to a company I had never heard of before, Le Chameau.  While I believe their bread and butter for years has been their outstanding rubber boots they also offer a leather hunting boot.  I had the opportunity to try out the Condor LCX this year leading up to and during the hunting season. What is one of the most important things you have to have during your workouts?  It’s gotta be good tunes!!!!!  In all my life I can rarely remember not having music playing while in the weight room or while running.  Of course that has progressed from a boom box and Walkman back in the day to streaming music now.  Along with those improvements came advancements in the ways we listen to music.  I would like to introduce you to my current method of getting my melodies, Decibullz.   Continue Reading…

In todays high tech, extremely competitive hunting gear market it’s often hard to keep up with all the constant improvements being made.  With that being said I covered a few of my favorite boots earlier this year from the ATA show (Danner and Lacrosse) as well as the premium offering from onX.  I wanted to go back and give you all a few updates.
