I recently had the opportunity to test and use 3 of First Lite’s newest additions: The Cirrus Puffy, VAPOR StormLight Jacket, and SEAK StormTight Jacket. I wanted to write up my thoughts on these new pieces as I think that everyone will have a place for these items in their packs this fall. Continue Reading…

Hunt Backcountry’s latest podcast feature’s First Lite founder Kenton Carruth. Kenton and Mark discuss First Lite’s early days, the benefits of merino wool and the 2016 line. Check it out.
There were some phenomenal products at the 2016 SHOT Show and I had the privilege of seeing far more than I could ever document in one place. Over the course of two days I walked over 15 total miles between booths to check out everything that was coming out from the great companies that were represented. There were a few products and brands that really stood out to me as game changers and serious innovations. Here is a list of some of the most exciting new products for 2016: Continue Reading…
Insulation jackets are an often overlooked (sometimes completely ignored) category of hunting gear. However, the insulation jacket is an essential part of anyone’s gear bag because when temps drop, regulating your body temp is critical. In this comparison, we will be taking a look at someone of the top insulation jackets available in the industry. We will not be looking at every available option, just the jackets that are most similar in technology, purpose, and price ($200-$250). Continue Reading…
Next month, Hunting Fit will be celebrating its 1 year anniversary! Over the last year, you have all helped to grow what was once a very small, insignificant website into a platform that reaches thousands of people each month. Aside from being impossible to spell correctly on the first try, the Uncompahgre Puffy Jacket is a phenomenal insulation piece. It bridges the gap between fowl weather gear and cold weather gear. I spent some time hunting whitetail outside of Ada, OK last year and came home with biggest buck I have ever harvested. Needless to say I will be going back to OK this year in the second week of November in hopes of catching some bucks heading into the rut. Continue Reading…
With merino wool being all the rage these days, some very good synthetic products get forgotten. First Lite’s Halstead Tech Fleece is one such piece.
The Halstead Tech Fleece is a mid-weight base layer that can be used in a layering system during very cold hunts or it can be used as an outer layer during mid-season hunts; it could even be a next-to-skin piece if you like a heavier layer against your skin. The polyester/spandex blend makes for a very stretchy finish that is flexible and moves nicely. It incorporates Xeolite scent control technology to eliminate odor, however since this is a synthetic piece it is possible for odor to build up over time if you aren’t careful. Continue Reading…
Extreme conditions need extreme gear. The First Lite North Branch system is for when things get a bit more extreme. The North Branch jacket and pants are made for colder temps and for when it gets windy and wet. The jacket and pants have some fantastic features that anyone can appreciate and they are made with the same quality that you have come to expect from First Lite. I recently ordered a set in ASAT (Fusion was backordered at the time) and I wanted to point out a few specific features in the jacket and the pants that really set these two pieces apart.
