“If you can’t fly, then run; If you can’t run, then walk; If you can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Always remember: you can do what you love because they gave all they had. We are so blessed in this nation to enjoy the freedoms we have been given. Be thankful for our service men and women and their families who sacrifice every day for our freedom and thank God for allowing you to live in this incredible nation.
Are you in “Elk Shape”?
If you want to be, the time to start is now. Elk season opens in just 4 months.

Making goals is a great place to start. But if you want to see results, you have to do more than plan… you have to work, hard. The time you invest now will pay big dividends later. Don’t get caught in the same trap as everyone else: realizing when it is too late that you should have started training soon. Get to work now, set some short-term goals that will help you reach your long term goals and you will be glad that you did.
When I was younger, I would wait to start getting ready for hunting season until a few weeks before the season began. I would not focus on my fitness, I would assume all of my gear still worked as intended, and I would assume that everything would be fine. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that I did not fill my tag very often back then. Success can never be assumed; it is something you must work toward every day.
While it may be the off-season right now, Fall will be here before you know it (and Spring turkey is coming up quick for those of you who like to go after gobblers). You have to pay your dues now for the success you hope to have in the future. Put in the work, put in the time, and enjoy your success. If you don’t want to pay your dues now, don’t be surprised when your lease on success runs out and you go home empty handed.
Sometimes you look at where you are currently and think, “There is no way I can reach my goal. It is too far away.” However, the truth is that your goal is attainable, regardless of how far away it may seem. Anything that is in sight is attainable; but anything you remove from you sight will never be attained. If you have high hopes for hunting this fall, start working toward your goals now. The time will pass by anyway. Come hunting season, the payoff will be reaching your goal and filling your tag. Keep your eyes fixed on your goal and you WILL get there.
You can choose to use the next day, week, and months to move closer to your goals or further away. The time will pass anyway. It is better to look back and be glad that you used the time well than to look back and wish you had done more. Train as though you tag of a lifetime will come through so that when it does, you will be ready.
If you want results, you have to challenge yourself. If you want comfort, don’t expect results. It’s that easy.
